Using an iPad as my main computer

iPad M1 Pro on a MagFlott stand connected to my 4k LG monitor w/ USB-C
I just sold my intel based 16” 2019 MacBook Pro. Probably the worst Apple product I have ever bought in terms of timing.
The M1 was released shortly after and a $999 Macbook Air had better performance than my 3x more expensive “Pro” machine 😭
Apple recently introduced dedicated external display support for iPad which makes it more useable as a computer.
So I thought I’d give it a try and use an iPad as my daily work computer for a week.
My thoughts: Fine for using it to do light work every now and then. Quite frustrating to use as a daily driver, especially for work.
Most web apps I use online don’t love mobile browsers, Notion acts weird on an iPad with a mouse and I miss the world of extensions and plugins I usually use to control my experience.
Still, a step in the right direction.
Motivation to just get started
I find myself struggling on a daily basis with self-doubt and uncertainty. It often keeps me from just starting something new.
The video is targeted at creatives, but I think the message is universal for anything you’ve been putting off that requires putting yourself out there.
The storytelling, shots, music, and pacing of this video moved and inspired me. I recommend taking 5:54 min of your day to check it out.
Just start.
ChatGPT Chrome extension
I like how Notion has implemented AI into its product.
It does a great job at giving quick-click options like ‘Summarize’ or ‘Change the tone’ that work contextually with the text you are writing or consuming.
I recently installed this ChatGPT chrome plugin.
It enables you to highlight pieces of text in the browser and get a similar contextual menu as you get in Notion.
You get options like: Improve writing, fix spelling & grammar, make shorter, make longer, summarize, etc.
So far it’s been useful in writing and communication in general.
I also just used it for explaining an abstract of a research paper on nature.com which worked like a charm.
Great no-code builder builder
While working on a side project, I found myself in the need of a way to spin up a simple website where I can sell a digital product, fast.
After some hunting, I found Typedream.
What I love is the pure ease of making a website that looks really good with very little effort and time.
You can sell products through a stripe integration with very low fees. It also hooks up to Notion, which you can then use as a CMS 🪄
