Building and selling a paid course in 30 days

As part of my series of 30-day business experiments, I’ve started to build a paid course. Thanks to those who filled in the typeform!

Below are the votes. Not exactly high numbers, but good enough to give some direction.

I’m two weeks in and I’ve been super slow getting started.

I made some rookie mistakes early on, like worrying about the branding, landing page & domain before nailing the positioning.

I decided to lean on my previous experience in Product Management and build a course out of that.

I guess I could have chosen a topic that anyone could do, but I’m easing my way into these experiments and I’m trying to give myself a bit of an edge here.

My learnings so far:

  • It’s so important to drill into who you are serving and what problem you are solving for them. Specificity matters in a sea of products and resources.

  • Do market research early. I waited too late sending out a form that digs into what PMs are actually looking for in a course.

    • This is also generating a waitlist for the course.

  • It’s great to have the time pressure of 30 days. This forces you to start selling and worry less about the rest.

So next week I’ll go live with pre-sales. Pretty nerve-wracking!

Here’s the pitch I recorded for on the landing page 👇

It could be a complete disaster fail-in-public situation or it could go ok-ish (I guess?).

I’ll embrace it either way :)

If you are interested in joining the waitlist or giving me feedback, check out this form.

PS: The form is driven by AI and it’s pretty awesome. It’s still in alpa so more on that in a later edition.

If you enjoyed this email, feel free to share it with a friend. It really helps :)

Cheers,
